Speaker Professor Darryl Jones
"Should We Believe in Climate Change"
For some people, the topic of climate change is not simply a scientific reality but a belief system akin to a religion. Or is science also a form of religion requiring faith? Given recent events in Australia, this might be worth exploring without getting too philosophical. Maybe we will need to learn how to ride a camel...
Darryl Jones is a professor at Griffith University where he has been working for more than 30 years. He is primarily an ecologist who studies how wildlife live in cities but he is also interested in the many ways that humans interact with and perceive nature. This includes big complex topics like who we connect with nature and why climate change is so controversial. Darryl is also a member of Southside UC at Tarragindi.

Christmas can be a difficult time. This is a service that allows space to lament the sense of loss, grief and passing that so many the community and world have felt this year with COVID19.
This event is definitely on Saturday 19 December, despite other incorrect communications.
Dec 22 CANCELLED DUE TO WET WEATHER - At our SSUC Worship Centres, we have had a tradition of holding Carols Events for the community in past years. These have been a time of joy and outpouring of community spirit from our congregation for our neighbours and friends. Unfortunately, 2020 has presented us with a new challenge in this time-honoured tradition - so we have decided to do something different. We are holding Living Nativities at three of our Worship Centres -
You can meet the Shepherds and Angels at Yeronga (58 Kadumba St)
See Mary and Joseph at the Stable in Tarragindi (24 Pope St)
Look at the gifts the Wisemen bring at Mt Gravatt (Cnr Hicks and Pope St)
At each Worship Centre, there will be a theme gift bag for your family to take that will have fun activities for the whole family.
In the case of wet weather, we will be making notifications on our [Home Page](www.ssuc.org.au) or our [Facebook page](www.facebook.com/southsideuc).
In the bag you will find the dry ingredients for a Christmas Bikkie as well as the material for Make-Your-Own Ornament in the theme of the Living Nativity you visited. You can find instructional videos for these at our [YouTube Channel](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLxIj2-8Z2uM8Eofj9tTPOPZb1YOCkM3uZ). You will also find a donation envelope for Act for Peace - Christmas Bowl, this charitable gift will go to support Act Peace and their work in developing countries. It has been part of our Carols and Christmas Services tradition to donate to this worth-while cause during Christmas - if you would like to know more visit [Christmas Bowl](https://christmasbowl.actforpeace.org.au/?utm_campaign=CB20-WEB44&utm_source=afpweb&utm_medium=web&_ga=2.147652659.528198172.1608371402-839783711.1575088307) and you will also be able to donate online if you prefer.
On behalf of our Congregation, we wish you and yours a Safe and Merry Christmas
