With hope in God, a deep desire to share in Christ’s mission and being led by the Holy Spirit, the people of Holland Park, Mt Gravatt, Tarragindi and Yeronga have come together to realise a new future.

A future that sees a Southside Congregation that is drawing people into life in Jesus Christ and is actively discipling them. Is alive with the excitement of children and youth and their families. Where worship is vibrant. There are strong community connections and it is known throughout our area for proclaiming Jesus’ message of love, hope and care.

How will we sing the Lord's song in this land?

28 February, 2020 @ 7:00 PM

We live in a world that is complex, diverse and changing rapidly. God’s people find themselves grappling with a missional context that has not been experienced before. It is an environment that we don’t completely understand, we are not trained for or have much experience in.

The reality is that for the vast majority of Australians, the local church is invisible or viewed as irrelevant. For those of us who are part of Southside, we know (either consciously or unconsciously) that something has got to change if we are going to faithfully communicate the gospel to the world around us.

By coming together as Southside we have committed ourselves to being open to change. But the question remains, what changes are needed so that we may show the relevance of the gospel in the neighbourhoods that we live?

This is a big challenge that faces us today and so we echo the cry of the psalmist: “How will we sing the Lord’s song in a strange land?”

The big question for us today is how we can embrace a new beginning in God’s mission in our local neighbourhood in 2020 and beyond.

Southside Uniting Church was born from a desire to engage in God’s missional future. This workshop will start us on our renewed journey. Further workshops are planned. We will also be seeking expressions of interest from people willing to form small groups to discover what God is doing by listening, learning, planning and acting.

So look forward to what is yet to come!!!

About Us

On 13 October 2019 the congregations of Holland Park, St Mark's Mount Gravatt, Wellers Hill - Tarragindi and Yeronga chose to come together as one congregation, as from 1 January, 2020. This occurred following a two year process of discernment where Uniting Church congregations on Brisbane's southside, were given a chance to discern their futures in terms of faith development, local and missional impact and evangelism.

During this two year period, some of the congregations discerned to continue on as independent congregations, but four congregations chose to come together for the following benefits:

- a shared worship life

- pooling together resources

- explore new missional initiatives

- find new paths for ministry outreach

- work together to bless the emerging generation

The work of discernment was completed under the ministry of our incumbent lead minister, Rev. David Fender, who worked with ministry agents, church councils and leaders across the different communities to listen, pray and discern God's direction for this new and exciting initiative.

Southside Uniting Church meets at four communities, Holland Park - formerly St. David's Holland Park on Logan Road, Mt Gravatt - formerly St. Mark's Mt Gravatt on Springwood St., Tarragindi - formerly Weller's Hill - Tarraginding Uniting Church on Pope St., and Yeronga - formerly Yeronga Uniting Church on Kadumba St. These congregations were officially closed by the Presbytery of South Moreton on Feb 2, 2020, and a new congregation Southside Uniting Church, was birthed at our Yeronga Community on Feb 9 2020.
